Rules of the Ouray Ice Park

  • Crampons are required for all persons (climbers or otherwise) in the established and posted “Climber Only” areas
  • Crampons and a helmet are required for all persons while climbing or in the bottom of the gorge.
  • Do not occupy more than two climbing routes in any one specific area.    No unattended fixed top-rope lines allowed
  • Please be kind and watch your time on an anchor. There are others that wish to climb.
  • No anchoring to any manmade structures including the penstock (the big red pipe)
  • All climbing in the “School Room” area must be on established & numbered fixed anchors.
  • It is suggested that all persons under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.
  • Dogs must be leashed while at the Ouray Ice Park and no dogs are allowed in
    the bottom of the gorge.
  • Persons violating these rules will lose the privilege of climbing in the park.

  • That the Ouray Ice Park does not offer guiding services or instruction (see our guiding page on who does)
  • That the Ouray Ice Park does not rent helmets, harnesses, crampons, boots, tools (Ouray Mountain Sports does)
  • That the Ouray Ice Park is typically open from December 15th to April 1st each year and that March is a great month to climb!!
