Salsa Lisa Cleaned Up

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Salsa Lisa (mixed climb in the Five Fingers Area) was just “liberated”  from it’s burden of ice.  There’s still much more ice than it has had in the past, but it’s in good fun shape now.  Salsa Lisa is one of the “moderate” mixed lines in the park and is a good tick for aspiring mixed climbers.  It located on the climbers right side of the Five Fingers area.  The anchor is just upstream from the telephone pole.

NOTE: While you’re climbing in the five fingers, don’t forget to anchor to the end of the chains (not the side with bolted anchors) to allow snowmobiles to pass by.  The snowmobiles are run by the hydro-electric plant whom lets us climb on the land.

Dallas Creek by Jason Nelson

Although it might be early to think about ice climbing, it’s not too early to come and check out the foliage.  It’s in full color right now!  There’s even some snow on the peaks to add to the majestic splendor of the San Juans.  Town is quiet as the summer tourists have left.  It’s still warm enough to rock climb, and the jeep roads are still accessible.  What are you waiting for?

It’s getting cold…

Shouldn’t be long now before ice routes are forming in the high country.  It’s been down in the 20’s at night in Ouray.  In fact, there was ice on the Talisman a week or so ago.  Don’t get too excited, it wasn’t enough to climb, but it won’t be long!
