The 2013 Ouray Ice Festival included the most exciting, and spectator friendly competition venues ever. Plans are already underway for an even bigger and better Fest in 2014.
Last year’s Ouray Ice Festival included the Elite Mixed Climbing Comp on Saturday, January 12 and the Hari Berger Speed Climbing Competition, sponsored by Lowa, on January 13. Athletes competed for $16,000 in prize money!
The Ouray Ice Festival, held each year in January in Ouray, CO, is an eclectic gathering of ice climbers, gear manufacturers, and ice climbing enthusiasts. The international Festival was first held in January 1996 and now is widely recognized as the premier event of its kind. Each year, familiar faces return to climb, socialize, test out the latest equipment, and watch the pros power their way up the latest competition route.
For the past eighteen years the Ouray Ice Festival has been the world’s premier ice climbing event. This annual gathering is attended by ice climbers from around the world, as well as industry sponsors, inspiring speakers, and the world’s top exhibition climbers. Festival events are held in and around the Ouray Ice Park, located in the Uncompahgre Gorge in Ouray, Colorado, as well as various other venues around town. The event is staffed by the Park’s board of directors, its professional staff, and a cadre of over 200 dedicated volunteers. The festival is the primary fundraiser for Park maintenance and operations. The industry leaders that sponsor the festival not only support the Park itself, but also gain access to a passionate audience of over 3,000 outdoor enthusiasts.
