The town of Ouray Colorado at dusk

Ouray and the surrounding San Juan mountain range are home to one of the greatest concentrations of water ice climbs in North America.

The range’s steep relief and deep gorges provide a superb venue for ice climbing. Roads carved into the sides of mountains throughout Ouray’s rich mining history provide stunning access to that terrain today.  In addition to being a premier ice climbing venue, the mountains around Ouray provide some of the best back-country skiing terrain in the Rocky Mountain region.  The Telluride ski area is just about a one hour drive from downtown Ouray, and we also boast a groomed nordic ski area less than 10 miles south of town.  The Ouray area has you covered for any winter outdoor adventure and we even have local hot springs to relax in when you are done.

How to Get Here

Ouray is located in the mountains of Southwestern Colorado on US Hwy 550, 70 miles north of Durango and 98 miles south of Grand Junction. The portion of Hwy 550 between Silverton and Ouray is referred to as the Million Dollar Highway.

Travel to Ouray by automobile or fly into one of several nearby locations. The closest regional airports are located in Montrose, Telluride, Grand Junction or Durango. Car rentals are available at all of the surrounding airports.

Airports

Montrose Airport is a commuter airport that is a 45-minute drive from Ouray. Airlines that fly into Montrose are United, Delta, American and Allegient.
