Our Water Our Future

Ensuring Sustainability for Future Generations

What is Our Water Our Future?
A project dedicated to ensuring a stable and abundant water supply for the Ouray Ice Park for generations to come. We’re accomplishing this by building our water infrastructure in order to sustainably acquire water from both the city of Ouray and our own independent water source.

Why It Matters
This project is about more than just pipes and pumps; it's about preserving the spirit and wonder of the Ouray Ice Park for future generations. With a reliable water source, we can:

  • Continue farming world-class ice

  • Grow access for climbers and visitors

  • Inspire adventurers from around the world

Project Milestones

The vision for Our Water Our Future is coming to life with several key accomplishments:

Water Rights Officially Secured! This is a huge win for the park's long-term stability

New 6" Water Main Installed! This pipeline runs from Dick's Chalet all the way to Canyon Creek

Fiber Optic and Electrical Lines Buried! These lines are now safely under Box Canyon Road

Huge part of it! Thanks to your generosity, we've raised nearly $1 million toward our $1.4 million goal

Behind The Scenes

Two men working on a large pipe in a rocky outdoor setting with trees and a small waterfall in the background. One man in a red hoodie and safety gear is standing on the pipe, while the other in a green jacket and helmet is next to it, both smiling.

Additionally, there is a lot going on behind the scenes in order to keep the project flowing:

  • A powerful vertical turbine pump is staged and ready for installation

  • The electrical transformer is safely staged at San Miguel Power (despite a year-long lead time!)

  • Precast culvert segments for the wet well are here and waiting for their moment this fall- when the creek is calm and timing is perfect

What’s NExt?

We're so close-but we need your help to cross the finish line. Here’s what’s next:

  • Extend electrical service from the transformer to the pump

  • Build a new vault to connect with the city's water supply

  • Install the wet well in Canyon Creek during low water flow
