It’s Our 30th Anniversary!

30TH ANNUAL OURAY ICE FESTIVAL: JANUARY 23RD - 26TH, 2025

At every Ice Fest we hold a massive climbing competition in the Scottish Gullies for competitors from all over the globe. This climbing comp is either an exhibition comp or a UIAA-sanctioned event, depending on the year. We accept all competitors at a certain climbing level, and the competition features two days of qualifying, with one day of finals. Comp winners receive custom trophies from local artists and cold hard cash!

2024 UIAA Ice Climbing Continental Open - Ouray

Competition Details

About: The Ouray comp is open to all UIAA and non-UIAA athletes. Those competitors wishing to compete as part of the UIAA Continental Cup Series, and have their scores count in the UIAA system, must also register as per the UIAA regulations.

Mixed Competition Divisions: Open Men, Open Women, Youth U18 Men, Youth U18 Women

Format: This year’s competition will be part of the UIAA Continental Cup Series. This is a Lead Difficulty competition only. U18 will be top-rope protected. Routes will be a combination of ice, natural rock, and artificial structure with artificial tool holds and kick in feet.

There will be two Qualifying Routes climbed by all Open Men and Open Women competitors. Between 6 and 12 highest combined scores in Open Men and Open Women divisions will advance to the Finals Route.

Final determination of number of climbers in each final will depend on number of climbers in each qualifier and ratio between divisions.

Scoring: UIAA approved scoring system will be used.

Friday, January 19th | 8am – 4pm
- Open Qualifiers. There will be 2 routes each competitor must climb.
Saturday, January 20th | 9:30am - 3:00pm
- Open Women’s Final, 9:30 am – 12:00pm. 8-12 climbers. 7-9 min climbing time, 4 min changeover margin.
- Open Men’s Final, 12:30pm – 3:00pm. 6-12 climbers. 7-9 min climbing time, 4 minute changeover margin.
- Awards, 3:00pm. Top 3 Open Men’s competitors, Top 3 Open Women’s competitiors.
Sunday, January 21st | 8:30am - 12:00pm
- Youth Competition, 2 top rope routes. 8:30am – 12:00pm up to 14 climbers total.
