🧊 Current CONDITIONS

The storm cycle we’ve been waiting for to bring cold temps has finally arrived, and now we wait again to see if the forecasted temperatures come with it. The Ice Park is open during operating hours every day in any conditions, so please come and enjoy some full alpine, full value days! Clearing the snow off the ice with your bodies while climbing is the best thing you can do to help us make more ice in the coming week. There’s always shovels and brooms at Dick’s Chalet and the Powder House as well.

All season, Ouray has had really high average temperatures and we’ve been relying on storms to bring us temps cold enough to make ice. There’s two problems with this: the forecasted temps haven’t always come through, and significant snowfall makes ice making difficult. If the cold temps come, at least we can hope to shore up our ice, especially the more finicky stuff on the north end, and keep it in better conditions for the weeks to come; at best we hope we’ll be able to make some too!

In the last week, we’ve had several new route closures for safety concerns. Our staff is constantly evaluating what ice should be open and what poses a threat or could possibly fall. Even so, ice climbing always comes with risk, be careful and ask staff if you have questions or doubts. Please continue to respect our closures and know that every anchor that is closed now is above a safety hazard. There is lots of good ice still open!
